NEW CHALLENGE! 2 intra-course timed sections on Gas Can and Couch!
Look, we all know the Lemurian is an epic, difficult course. There are a only handful of guys who can go full-gas the entire way. For the rest of us, just finishing is a win. So to spice things up this year, we are offering a new challenge: in addition to the overall timing (start/finish) we will be timing 2 sections within the course – 1. the Gas Can section and 2. the Couch sections. Challenge yourself. Challenge your buddies. Rail the trail. Fear the Couch!
Even though it is close to town, allow 30 minutes to drive from downtown Redding to the race parking lot at Brandy Creek Marina in Whiskeytown NRA.
From Redding follow Hwy. 299W about 5 miles west of town to the Whiskeytown Information Center located at the corner of Hwy 299W and JFK Memorial Drive.
Purchase your day use pass here, and then proceed west on JFK Drive, then across Whiskeytown dam. Follow the signs to the Brandy Creek Marina (this will be after the turnoff to Brandy Creek Beach).
Things To Know
Do the Long Course! The long course and the intermediate course both tackle the same iconic climbs and descents. So if you are thinking about just doing the intermediate, you might want to reconsider and do the long course instead. The difference is that the long course has 6 extra miles some of the best swoopy and fun single track Whiskeytown has to offer with only about 500 additional feet of climbing. Think about it. It’s fun.
Drink Water! It can be hot (or cold) in May in Redding. Recent years have been in the80s and 90s. Plan your energy output, bring gels or energy bars, and drink plenty of water atleast 48 hours before the race and during the race. The heat can dehydrate you quickly during the long and intermediate course routes. Know the warning signs, if you feel sick, disoriented or confused while riding, these are early symptoms of severe dehydration.
Aid Stations! There will be aid stations located at miles 12 & 18 on the long course and miles 7 & 13 on the intermediate course. Aid stations will hand off cups of water and fruit
After party! Come stay for a fun afternoon at the beach. There will be a beer booth and burritos from our on-site vendors.
